Yorkshire Film Archive
The Yorkshire Film Archive located
in the Fountains Learning Centre is a registered charity which
finds, preserves and provides public access to moving image made in
or about the Yorkshire region.
The YFA’s growing collections contain over 16,000 titles,
ranging from films made by the early film pioneers of the late
1890s, to recent footage of changing landscapes and life in the
region including documentaries, newsreels, industrial, promotional
and educational films, home movies and regional television
collections.
The YFA is based on the ground floor of the Fountains Learning
Centre, where purpose-built premises include temperature and
humidity controlled film vaults to safeguard the films and
specialist viewing and editing facilities help the YFA make their
collections accessible for everyone to see and enjoy.
York St John University students have a
great opportunity to access archive footage for research and media
productions. You can view over 60 hours of footage on the
YFA website free of
charge, search over 3500 catalogue entries on the YFA catalogue
or call in and talk to the team about the collections.
