Employer links

YSJ has developed many close links and partnerships with organisations from the public, private and third sectors; in health, culture and arts, sport, technology and many more. Partnerships ensure that our degree programmes remain relevant to employer needs but also provide springboards for our students to grow their own networks, crucial for employment in the 21st century.

Film & TV Production

You will engage with the major players in the industry as well as the independent sector. Whilst you have two formal opportunities to undertake work placement activities, we also encourage and support you in work placements whenever and wherever you can. We have students placed with a wide range of organisations.

A Foundation Degree (FD) is a nationally recognised qualification that offers vocational training combined with related study. The Film & Television Production programme has been written in collaboration with practitioners and businesses in the industry to make sure that the work you do is relevant to your future career.

We have extremely good links with the local community in the arts, education and health. Through these contacts we are able to offer students the chance to discover which areas they are interested in pursuing in the world of work.

Fine Art

We have excellent partnerships with external organisations such as Creative York, Yorkshire Forward, Higher York and York Galleries and Museums Trust, which enhance the experience of studying within York and the region.

You will be creating innovative new products for manufacture in a wide range of the creative industries, often working collaboratively on exciting design commissions with our partner/employer network, a process that narrows the gap between an educational and professional experience.

Healthcare Practice

The team works closely with the relevant subject sector skills councils - Skills for Health and Skills for Care - to ensure that you are well positioned in the emerging employment market, once qualified.

At the heart of community sport in York and North Yorkshire

At York St John we are committed to making a difference and that's why many of our staff and students are actively involved in helping to develop sport within the community. Staff have great links with key local and regional sports organisations, including Sport England, Sports Coach UK and BASES. The University also plays a strategic role in Active York - the City's Community Sports Network - and North Yorkshire Sport, our County Sports Partnership.

We work with a range of partners in the delivery of programmes including:

  • The York Institute of Community Theology
  • The Urban Theology Unit, Sheffield
