Our Strategy 2012-2015
At York St John University we strive
to be exceptional in all we do and achieve.
We are building a reputation as a high
quality, friendly university, known for its academic excellence, a
strong community spirit and a magnificent campus based in the heart
of the city. Our new strategic plan will help us to build on our
success.
Through our strategy we will:
- Enhance the quality of the student
experience, with a particular focus on learning and teaching, so
that our graduates develop skills for life and work.
- Nurture and retain the sense of
community built up over 170 years.
- Deliver growth in our student numbers
– Home/EU, international and postgraduate.
- Ensure our financial and
organisational resilience.
We have much to be proud of in our
performance. We have increased student applications year on year
resulting in a successful bid to HEFCE (Higher Education Funding
Council for England) for additional student numbers and following
the opening of our new international offices we are experiencing
growth in international student applications and acceptances.
Elsewhere, we manage excellent NHS and other health provider
contract partnerships and maintain strong teacher education
provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Ofsted
awarded an ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ for our secondary and primary
teacher education provision and as a result the Teaching Agency
allocated us additional places on programmes in recognition of the
quality of our provision.
We have high standards within our
academic delivery. The NSS (National Student Survey) for 2011 rated
us within the top twenty in the UK for our student satisfaction
with the quality of academic delivery and for the second year
running we have been nominated for the Times Higher Education Award
for “Most Improved Student Experience” as voted for by
students.
Our continued investment in the
student experience is also about providing high quality learning,
social and living environments. The major enhancement of the
Fountains Learning Centre has been highly successful and
facilitated a refreshed approach to the provision of information
learning services. We have acquired fantastic new outdoor sports
facilities covering 57 acres within a short walk of our city centre
campus. This will reinvigorate our sports offer and enhance our
ability to provide an inclusive sport programme, promoting health,
wellbeing and social inclusion.
We have signed an agreement for
another £12 million student residential accommodation development
within the city walls which will be completed by September 2013.
This again will support our ambition to grow both home and
international student numbers.
We already contribute more than £150
million to the local economy every year and help to create 1,100
jobs in the City. Our success will ensure that we continue to
support the economic growth of the city and region. We are proud to
be a civic university with a strong community ethos and engagement
in business, the arts, education and health and life sciences.
Our staff, students and partners are
York St John University’s greatest asset and it will be through
your support, passion and commitment that we can realise our
ambitions.
