The commitment of York St John University towards Widening Participation (WP) is firmly embedded in our core values and strategic objectives. The question of 'How accessible are we?' is considered in everything we do within the University; outreach, information advice and guidance, an accessible curriculum, facilities and academic support.

The commitment to Widening Participation is clearly stated in the Access Agreement and the Admissions Policy.

The University strives, through a series of widening participation initiatives, to reach out to:

  • younger learners from areas with low rates of participation in full time education, and also their influencers such as teachers, parents, carers, advice and guidance workers and youth workers.
  • mature learners with no previous higher education experience in areas of low participation in full time higher education study.
  • minority ethnic students, parents/carers and other key influencers especially from York and North Yorkshire but also from other parts of the region as appropriate.
