About the Project

Important Update - please read this message now! (6th June 2006)

Moblogging
Moblog is a blend of the words mobile and weblog. A mobile weblog, or moblog, consists of content posted to the Internet from a mobile or portable device, such as a mobile phone or PDA. Moblogs generally involve technology which allows publishing from a mobile device to a weblog. This Video Clip Icon video [8.9MB] scenario demonstrates a possible student mo-blogging experience.

A weblog (usually shortened to blog, but occasionally spelled web log or weblog) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles, most often in reverse chronological order.

PHS Students involved in the project. This project aims to allow students who are on practice placements to post reflective comments to a private blog using mobile technology. College staff and practice educators will then be able to view the blogs and respond with supporting comments.

This pilot project runs from May to July 2006 and aims to explore how mobile technology can contribute to practice-based learning for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy students. In this short Video Clip Icon video [17MB] Peter Gray (Head of Programme) explains more about the project.

Background of ALPS
(Assessment & Learning in Practice Settings)

ALPS is one of the 74 Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to promote excellence across all subjects and aspects of teaching and learning in higher education. Funding of £315 million over five years from 2005-06 to 2009-10 represents HEFCE's largest ever single funding initiative in teaching and learning.

Building on existing strengths across the partnership, the Centre for Excellence in Assessment and Learning in Practice Settings aims to ensure that students graduating from courses in health and social care are fully equipped to perform confidently and competently at the start of their professional careers so improving the standards of care.
