The Association of the Colleges of Ripon & York St John
CLOSURE OF THE ASSOCIATION OF
THE COLLEGES OF RIPON AND YORK ST JOHN
Letter from the General Secretary
circulated to all members of the Association in October 2012
The Association of the
Colleges of Ripon & York St. John
To All members of the Association.
October 2012
Dear All,
I write to you with an update following my letter in April, the
Association AGM in July and the Management Meeting in October.
The AGM was attended by 53 members. The Resolution, as outlined
in the April letter, was put before the meeting after a short
discussion.
The Resolution was carried with a large majority, 51 members
voted in favour, 1 member voted against and there was 1
abstention.
During the discussion that preceded the vote there was
considerable support for the view that such action was necessary.
It was pleasing to note that the reasoning behind the decision
appeared to be fully understood. Members who spoke accepted the
action with regret and sadness. Similar sentiments were expressed
in 24 contacts received before the AGM.
It is now necessary to move on and look forward to 2013. The
many years of the Association will be celebrated during the last
Re-Union Weekend. Although there will undoubtedly be sadness at the
closure – members of
the Management Committee are looking to plan a weekend which
will be remembered for some years into the future.
At the Management Committee Meeting on Saturday 13 October 2012
outline decisions were taken which will be confirmed at the
Committee Meeting in March. Views already expressed to members of
the Management Committee have been taken into consideration during
the discussion.
The weekend will be planned in conjunction with the University.
The Vice-Chancellor has kindly agreed to support the event with
financial input for which we are grateful. However, final decisions
will be in the hands of the Management Committee.
The date of the final Re-Union Weekend is Friday 5 July
– Sunday 7 July. Bed and Breakfast is available on the
York Campus for two nights.
On a financial note you are advised to cancel your
Standing Order to the Association which would normally leave your
bank account in August each year.
Should you wish to continue to support the University (if
you are not already doing so) you can set up a new Standing
Order/ Direct Debit to the SPARK Fund –
which directly supports students at York St John.
