Andrew Gordon

Head of Programme English Literature

BA (Hons), PGCE, MA

Modules

Include Literature in the Modern World, Writing Now, Gothic and Horror, Science Fiction, The Novel

Andy's interest in literature, both as a reader and a teacher, could be said to stem from that idea - what makes the study of literature such a rich field is the range and variety of ways in which it is possible to read and interpret texts. But the richness of the field is also apparent in the range and variety of texts to which we can apply the skills, approaches and angles of interpretation gained from the study of literature - films, pictures, adverts, television series. His own interests are varied - from the nineteenth-century novel to Gothic and science fiction. Andy teaches on a range of courses offered by the English Literature programmes, from the introductory module Reading Texts 1 to the final-year module on The Novel. He has been Head of Programme since 1999.
