Dr Liesl King

Senior Lecturer in Literature Studies

PhD in English Literature, Queen Mary, University of London. MA in Literature Studies; Certificate in Teaching Composition and Literature, San Francisco State University.   BA Honours, with Special Distinction in the Major, in English Literature, University of California, Santa Barbara.

Liesl King specialises in women’s science fiction and fantasy.  She completed her PhD at the University of London, Queen Mary - it is entitled ‘Transforming the Post-Patriarchal Paradigm: Alternative Spirituality in Feminist SF and Fantasy’.  She teaches on the BA English and Media programmes, as well as on the MA in English. She graduated with an MA in English from San Francisco State University in 1995, and she completed her BA in English at the University of California in Santa Barbara in 1988 with Honours and Special Distinction in the Major.  Following her marriage to a British citizen she taught part-time in the English department at the University of North London and in the Women’s Studies department at the University of East London while working on her PhD.  She has been part of the York St John University English programme since 2003.

Liesl King’s research interests focus on women’s science fiction and fantasy, feminist and gender theories, and progressive spiritualities.
