between the theatre and his touring company until in 1994 he was
approached by the University of Hertfordshire to help write, design
and deliver a new performance degree programme at their then
Wall Hall campus in Aldenham.
Miles has been working in Universities
across the UK and abroad ever since.
Joining York St. John University's theatre
team in 2000, Miles teaches Theatre and Scenography, Ensemble
Performance, Theatre in Context, From Acting to Performance, Design
for Performance, Independent Practice as Research and Contemporary
At present his research is concerned with
where a play lives conceptually and physically and the potential of
scenography in contemporary theatre production.
"In my work the secrets of the
performance lie in the physical space or geography. The emotional,
intellectual and spiritual boundaries of the performance are
physically represented on stage. This makes the scenography an
essential conduit which facilitates actions, determines
choreography, and echoes the text."
