Theory
During the mid to late 80’s, prior to pursuing
an academic career, Stuart worked in the engineering industry. In
1990 he left his native Black Country to complete a BA in English
& American Studies and a Masters degree in Critical Theory,
both awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University where he later
taught Media & Cultural Studies. Having taught in these areas
at Brunel and Chester Universities, Stuart is now Head of Media
& Communications at York St John University where he is
responsible for undergraduate programmes in Media, Film Studies and
Film & Television Production alongside postgraduate programmes
in Film Production and Documentary Production. In addition to
managing the Department he continues to teach Media & Film
Studies and contributes to the MA Literature Studies and the MBA
Media Management. Stuart’s teaching and research interests are in
the areas of gender and sexuality, particularly the cultural
constructions of homosexuality, British class cultures and also,
the entrepreneurial possibilities of working within the arts.
