Wendy Burke

Senior Lecturer in Film & Television Production

PhD in Film and Cultural Studies. BA (Hons) Drama, Theatre & Television Studies

Wendy Burke studied Drama, Theatre and Television Studies at Winchester before working for fourteen years in television and video production as a producer, director and researcher of broadcast and non-broadcast programmes.  Productions include military history documentary series 'Gallipoli 1915' and 'The Somme 1916', current affairs programmes, television commercials, sports documentaries and event coverage, educational, training and corporate films and two fifteen-part series of the makeover show ‘Gardening Angels’.  Broadcasters were: ITV, Channel 4, BBC1, BBC2 and UKTV Style, and independent production companies in the North-East and Yorkshire.

Wendy gained her Doctorate in Film and Cultural Studies from King's College London for her research into the cultural legacy of World War Two in the Netherlands revealed in Dutch war films from the 1960s to the 1980s.  Her research interests embrace film and television from an interdisciplinary perspective and include film and history, cultural identity, film theory, documentary production and history and the sociology of representation.

Wendy currently teaches theory and practice within documentary production on the BA (Hons) Film and Television Production and teaches on the MA Documentary Production
