Staff research interests and expertise underpin
the entire programme. We have published poetry and novels,
experienced the pressure of deadlines and met the demands of
publishers. Staff also have academic research qualifications –
particularly in critical writing. Our modules reflect the diversity
of our research in this and other areas.
The student experience is enhanced by the
provision of opportunities to see and hear visiting writers,
including the likes of Kate Atkinson and Jackie Kay who
usually give a reading from their current work in progress. Our
Writer in Residence is also on hand to help.
We have developed working relationships with
others, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. This
has allowed us to offer work placements at all these levels in
publishing for example. Our contacts with academic colleagues
overseas allow us to offer students a range
of opportunities to study abroad.
