Film & TV Production BA (Hons)

An imaginative concern for film and television, that’s what we
are about. Through a combination of practical work and theoretical
and critical studies we aim to help students become creative and
intelligent makers of film and TV. We don’t want our students
to fit in a box – it’s all about facilitating their creativity.
What we are looking for is passion, commitment and enthusiasm.
You can study our Film & Television Production programme as
a Specialist degree.

Staff and students share a research ethos which
is about consistently developing as a reflective practitioner. Much
of our research examines the relationship between theory and
practice and that research is often practice-led. We are
engaged in intellectually challenging and diverse research in film,
documentary and screenwriting covering subjects from Asian cinema
to regional TV documentary.

Our students regularly enter their work for
regional and national competitions and work on joint ventures with
York’s independent cinemas. Student work has won significant
awards and our graduates can be found in Yorkshire Television, BBC
TV, ITN, Granada, Screen Yorkshire, the BFI, Aardman Animation,
Century Films, Channel 5, Sky Digital, Sky News, amongst many
others. |

We bring the outside in and take your work
outside the campus. Industry practitioners are regular visitors,
often to work with you on projects. Recent guests have included
Mark Herman, Ian Bevitt Nicky Ball and Pete Harness. Mark Herman
helps with script development and editing for our third year
students. We enjoy a close link with the RTS, Screen Yorkshire and
independent cinemas.
