Venturefest 2010
10/02/10 Dr Gary Mulholland and Glyn
Littlewood of York St John Business School delivered a seminar “The
Art of Science and Networking” at this year’s Venturefest held at
York Racecourse
“It’s not what you know, but who you know, that determines your
success”. More than just an excuse, this is something that we all
appreciate through experience, yet something that is often assumed
to be outside our influence. Wrong! Who we know is what networking
is all about, and making contacts with the right people is one of
our choices: Speak with people that might help you, or walk on
by?!
This highly practical, fun session was designed to introduce you
to the most effective way to grow both yourself and your business –
networking. Some people appear naturally confident and skilled at
networking, but like many things networking can be learned and
improved.
The session included:
- A few facts about the economics of networks – what value are
they really!
- Ten top tips for networking
- Different types of network
- How to create your own network
- Adding value to yourself, and your network.
Gary Mulholland is a practicing networker that has started
from scratch building his networks to help them build
his influence. He is a mentor on the Yorkshire Accord
mentoring programme, has a doctorate in the ‘power of networking
for business’, and heads up the Evidence Based Leadership Network
through York St John Business School.
Glyn Littlewood is a Senior Lecturer in Business Management at
York St John Business School with over 15 years experience in
education. Furthermore he held a number of managerial positions in
private sector organisations; this wide experience brings a real
life experience to lectures and towards student development at York
St John Business School.
