Studying
the BA (Hons) programme in Marketing Management was both
challenging and rewarding. During my first year I applied for a job
in administration with a local ice cream producer and then began
applying some of the marketing techniques I was learning at
university and from my previous work in marketing in Australia and
before long was promoted to marketing coordinator and eventually
marketing manager. Although maintaining a full time job on top of a
university degree was hugely challenging and exhausting at times,
it not only helped me to learn how to manage my time and priorities
it also allowed me to put my academic studies into practical
application which I found was even more beneficial than just
reading about it. Experience is one of the most important things
for graduates to take onto future employers and I wanted to ensure
I had as much as possible.
I also undertook an internship with an
international advertising agency in London during the summer before
my final year that taught me more about the real world of marketing
than I had ever learned before. Although it was incredibly hard
work it was worth it and at the end of the summer I was offered a
full contract as Account Coordinator to begin on graduation. I now
leave university armed with the academics and experience I know
will help in my future career in advertising.
