During my
degree, I have learnt many skills. These range from time management
right through to developing more patience, especially when working
in a group.
In my second year at York St John I had the
opportunity to create two assessment centres (these are widely used
in the recruitment of graduates). The first of which was part of a
HR module in the first semester which involved working in a group
of eight people all different ages, gender and culture. To start
off with the group had many issues one of which was communication
which had escalated into part of the group not wanting to work with
the other. However with some help and diplomacy we as a group
successfully managed to organize a small assessment centre for
9people, while also learning a lot about each other cultures and
opinions, and instead of it being a very negative experience it was
really enjoyable by the end of it. So much so that for four of the
members went on to organizing and running an assessment centre for
120 students for A Career in Business module which involved being
creative with time management and learning how to deal with
pressure. Though these experiences it has helped me to develop an
interest in Human Resources especially in recruitment.
At the moment I am still working in the same
organization that I was throughout my studies, however now I have
more responsibilities, these include more of an administrative
role, whilst also participating in the recruitment and training of
new members of staff. Although I am not in the exact place I want
to be right now, I am confident that I will get my dream job within
HR.
