I currently teach both on the MA Applied Linguistics: TESOL and on the BA in English Language and Linguistics at York St John. I supervise PhD students working on multilingualism, English as a lingua franca, preparing volunteers to work on international aid projects and interpreting.

I am also keen to explore ways of working in virtual spaces.  I’m currently experimenting with Moodle, YouTube and social bookmarking as a way of communicating with students and sharing resources. In 2011 I published, along with my co-authors Chris Hall and Patrick Smith, Mapping Applied Linguistics: A Guide for Students and Practitioners. As part of our project to encourage collaboration between language professionals working in different areas of the discipline, we have created an online space for discussion and resource sharing: http://www.mappling.com/

As part of my teaching on the BA English Language and Linguistics, I have been funded by the Higher Education Academy to develop an online tutorial which aims to introduce students at internationalising UK universities to the idea of English as a lingua franca: http://www.englishlinguafranca.com/
