Generating career ideas
Working out what you want to do after University can be a pretty
daunting process. Some people know exactly what they want to do,
others have no idea. This is one of the main reasons that students
come and see the Careers & Employability team, and we can
definitely help you think about what career might suit you.
However, there are number of things you can do to help yourself
decide what kinds of jobs might be right for you:
- Look at what can I do with my
degree to find out about what previous graduates have
done, and find out careers information related specifically to what
you are studying.
- Use Prospects
Planner and/or TARGETjobs careers
report to help generate careers ideas based on your interests
and skills.
- Find out more about types of
jobs – research what different jobs are like, what
qualifications you need, and consider jobs related to the ones that
interest you.
- Think about what might be important to you in a job, and
what kind of work you might enjoy –
what values do you hold that you want to see upheld in your
work?
- Get some experience volunteering to
see what different types of work might be like – great for your CV
too.
