How can we help?
The most useful tool in your preparation for life after
University is the help available from the Careers &
Employability team. Ben, Glynis, Liz, Suzanne and Robin are here to
help you in any way we can.
You can watch the video to find out more, read
the summary below of just some of the ways in which we can
help, or meet
the team so you know who to look out for!
Careers appointments
You can make an appointment to see one of the team at any time
of the year, to talk about anything related to careers and
employability. This might be:
- General careers chat. Don't know what you want
to do after Uni? Have some ideas but not sure how to turn them into
a career path? Want to learn more about graduate job options? Come
and see us to talk through these things.
- CV/Application form checking. Applying for a
specific job, or just want to make sure your CV is ready for when
the perfect job does come along? We can help! Check out the hints
and tips on the website, and then come and see us to make sure
you're on the right track.
- Looking for a part time job? We can help
you find part time jobs (such as those advertised on YSJ Connect), as well as discuss possible
volunteering opportunities that would look great on your
CV.
- Internships. Want to REALLY stand out
from the crowd when applying for a graduate job? Then why not go
for an internship - a paid, temporary
job that fits around your studies (or after you graduate) which
gives you the kind of fantastic work experience employers are
looking for.
Careers/Skills Sessions
We run general sessions on useful skills such as CV writing,
interview skills, networking, giving presentations, and how to best
utilise social media. For details, see the news & events section of the website, and
if you can't see what you're looking for there, contact us to see
if we can arrange something to suit you. We also deliver a range of
workshops in your Faculty specifically designed for certain degree
programmes, so keep an eye out for those too.
Placements/Careers Modules
If you have to undertake a work placement as part of your
course, or have careers/employability related activities to do as
part of your course, come and see us to see if we can help!
Thinking of teaching?
The team have years of experience of helping students get places
on PGCEs and related courses. Whether it's help with your
application form, going for an interview, or looking to get a
placement, we can help.
And don't forget, we're here for you whatever year you are in,
whatever degree you are studying, and whatever career you want to
go into. We are happy to help even after you have graduated too, so
don't forget to keep in touch! The careers office in Phoenix Court
also has a range of booklets, guides and leaflets with useful
information for you to take away.
