Graduate support

Graduating this year or already graduated? We're
still here to help!
Whether it's over the summer immediately after you have
handed in your last assignment, or in the months and years to come,
you are welcome to use the services and support offered by the
Careers & Employability team.
Graduates are welcome to use the resources on this website, or
make an appointment to come and see us for help with your career
planning and job searching. If you move away from York, we can
offer some advice via email, or alternatively we can arrange a
telephone or Skype chat.
In return for this, we would love it if you could help us out by
giving something back to York St John. We are always on the look
our for graduates who might be willing to give just a little bit of
their time, in one of the following ways:
Employer mentoring
In partnership with the Alumni Office,
the Careers & Employability team have set up a scheme that
offers students the opportunity to be mentored by alumni of the
University (and other local employers). This is of huge benefit to
students, who get the chance to speak with people from the
industries they are hoping to go into, and gain 'real-world' advice
and support from people have experienced the transition from
University into the world of work. You can download more information about
the scheme, or contact Careers &
Employability for more details.
Careers talks
Working with individual programmes, the Careers &
Employability team is always on the look-out for graduates of the
University to come and talk to students about their experiences,
offer hints and tips of how to get ahead in their area of work, and
how they can make the most of their time at University to prepare
themselves for life in their industry. It doesn't matter if you
graduated in the last couple of years, or long ago - we'd love to
hear from you.
Employers - can you help?
Alternatively, if you work for an organisation based in or
around York, and think you might be able to offer students work
placement or volunteering opportunities, or perhaps even a
part-time job or internship, you could make a real difference to
the career opportunities of our current students. Feel free to
contact us to find out more about how
you could help.
Let us know what you are up to
Not long after you graduate we'll probably be in touch asking
you to complete a quick survey, just to update us on what you're
doing - we're always interested to know, and it's also something
that we are legally required to do. We'd be really grateful if you
could respond with the details when that happens.
