Kate Whisker

"When I started my degree in English Language and Linguistics at York St John I did not foresee that I would pursue studies at a postgraduate level. I am currently studying for a Masters in Linguistics at the University of York and am presently being considered for PhD study at Lancaster University. My undergraduate degree at York St John provided me with a thorough background in Linguistics which I am building on in my postgraduate studies. Members of staff in the Linguistics department specialise in different areas, allowing a wide variety of modules to be on offer, the only downside being that you cannot choose them all! I would recommend both the University and the department to anyone interested in language, just be aware that the enthusiasm of the staff may rub off and you may find yourself hooked like me."

Kate received her BA (Hons) degree in 2006 and is now in her second year of a funded PhD study in Linguistics at Lancaster University.
