The Aesthetica Short Film Festival is a celebration of independent film from across the world, and an outlet for supporting and championing short filmmaking. Showcasing films across 15 distinct and historic locations from medieval halls to ancient city walls, the festival invites visitors to create their own viewing experience with a series of master classes, workshops and networking events.

Master classes for 2012 include: BAFTA on creating a memorable visual narrative through cinematography; Warp Producer Mary Burke (Richard Ayoade’s Submarine) on film production; Panel discussion on Film Criticism, and how it influences viewers, with Jason Wood (Programmer at Curzon Cinemas and writer for Sight & Sound), Matt Bochenski (Editor of Little White Lies) and Professor Ginette Vincendeau (King’s College London); BAFTA nominated filmmaker Carol Morley (Dreams of a Life); Ravi Amaratunga (Channel 4) Random Acts – Short Film; Elliot Grove (Director of Raindance) on budget filmmaking; Chris Jones (Director of London Screenwriters’ Festival and author of the Guerrilla Film Maker’s Pocketbook) on preparing to make a film; Hussain Currimbhoy (Sheffield DocFest) on what makes a good documentary; BAFTA winning animators the Brothers McLeod on character development.
