The Aesthetica Short Film Festival is a
celebration of independent film from across the world, and an
outlet for supporting and championing short filmmaking. Showcasing
films across 15 distinct and historic locations from medieval halls
to ancient city walls, the festival invites visitors to create
their own viewing experience with a series of master classes,
workshops and networking events.
Master classes for 2012 include: BAFTA on creating a memorable
visual narrative through cinematography; Warp Producer Mary Burke
(Richard Ayoade’s Submarine) on film production; Panel discussion
on Film Criticism, and how it influences viewers, with Jason Wood
(Programmer at Curzon Cinemas and writer for Sight & Sound),
Matt Bochenski (Editor of Little White Lies) and Professor Ginette
Vincendeau (King’s College London); BAFTA nominated filmmaker Carol
Morley (Dreams of a Life); Ravi Amaratunga (Channel 4) Random Acts
– Short Film; Elliot Grove (Director of Raindance) on budget
filmmaking; Chris Jones (Director of London Screenwriters’ Festival
and author of the Guerrilla Film Maker’s Pocketbook) on preparing
to make a film; Hussain Currimbhoy (Sheffield DocFest) on what
makes a good documentary; BAFTA winning animators the Brothers
McLeod on character development.
