How do I access funding?

If you have disclosed a disability to the university, for example on your UCAS application, you may be eligible for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) to fund individual support.

DSA will provide funding for the additional support you may require during your time at university.

Please note that you are eligible to apply for DSA even if you are not applying for a student loan and/or if you are studying part time.

To apply you must access the DSA application form from your funding body. Your funding body will probably be either:  be the  NHS  if you are studying a full time Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy degree or Student Finance England for all other courses.  It is important to apply for DSA as soon as you receive a conditional offer from the University as this can be a lengthy process.

The application form must be sent to your funding body with an accompanying letter of evidence stating your condition or difficulty and how it impacts on your daily life. The letter can be from your Educational Psychologist, GP, Consultant or Healthcare Professional.

Your funding body will advise approval for an assessment of your individual Study Needs. You will need to book an assessment at an Access Centre. There is an Access Centre at York St John University; you can contact the Access Centre on accesscentre@yorksj.ac.uk. The assessment is very informal and identifies your individual needs to ensure you get the best out of your time at university.
