What support will I receive?

The University provides support for students on a short term or ongoing basis. You may need specific technical equipment, study skills support, library assistance, a signer or note-taker. If you have mental health difficulties you may benefit from having an Academic Mentor.

Support is funded through the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), identified in your Assessment of Study Needs, and may include:


  • Equipment – such as Dictaphones, specialist software/hardware
  • Non Medical Helpers – note takers, academic mentors, support workers,  study skills tuition, library assistance.
  • General – liaison with academic faculties, extra time and/or special arrangements for exams and assessments, consumables such as a photocopying/book allowance.

 

Other support from the Disability Advice Team may include:

  • Liaison with Accommodation Services about any special requirements
  • Liaison and referral to the Students Union
  • Liaison with Healthcare Services
  • Referal to specialist staff within Student Services
