Sikh Family visit YSJU
Students on the first year Sikh Tradition module enjoyed a
unique insight into Sikh family life when Manjit Kaur and Narinder
Singh visited the module with their four children. The workshop in
Sikh traditions and music was one of the highlights of the module.
Manjit and Narinder spoke about the challenges of raising a family
to be aware of their Sikh heritage whilst allowing them the freedom
to make informed choices about their own lifestyle. A memorable
moment was when the whole family unpacked their traditional Indian
instruments and gave a recital, playing Sintoor, Tabla and singing
Sikh hymns. Manjit and Narinder also provided students with some
invaluable first hand data that students could use in their
assignments on Sikh Identity and continued to communicate with
students throughout the module via email.
