Senior Lecturer, Children, Young People and Education
(CYPE)
Tony's background is in teaching, learning consultancy and
research. Having studied Theology at York St John in the 1960s, he
was employed as a teacher in several High Schools over a period of
17 years.
From 1985 until 1987, he was jointly seconded to work for the
Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Examinations Board and the
Counselling and Career Development Unit at the University of Leeds.
It was during that time that Tony decided to embark on a career in
educational consultancy. Nowadays, Tony's consultancies are about
helping individuals and teams develop their practice.
At York St John University, Tony teaches on the Foundation
Degree programmes in Supporting Learning and Working with Children
and Young People, the BA (Hons) Education Studies, and the MA
Practitioner Research: Improving Professional Practice.
Tony’s active research work is concerned with investigating
professional learning communities, the processes of psychological
contracting within the workplace, workforce reform and the
processes of job-redesign, the processes of knowledge creation and
transfer and entrepreneurial learning in the workplace, and
graduate employment and employability.
