Centre for Religion in Society (CRiS)
The Centre for Religion in Society was established at York St
John University in 2008. CRiS provides a forum where scholars, in
particular from the disciplines of Theology and Religious Studies,
but also from other disciplines in the humanities and social
sciences, as well as relevant practitioners and professionals, come
together to look at the role of religion in the cultural, social
and political life of society as well as its role in conflict
resolution, peace-building and reconciliation.
The centre is facilitated by Professor Pauline Kollontai and Professor Sebastian Kim and aims to stimulate
and contribute to discussions within academia and the public
arena:
- to serve as a forum for the academic
discussion of research which extends our understanding of religion
in the contemporary world and for the dissemination of important
analyses of religion and contemporary society for a wider public
audience.
- to conduct externally-funded research
activities that create new and develop existing research
collaborations.
- to encourage collaborative working
relationships with regional, national and international partners,
as well as with the media, policy-makers and other public and
professional organizations.
- to provide training in religious awareness
for practitioners and professionals in a range of public and
private sector organisations.
- to offer PhD scholarships for the study of
religion, peace and reconciliation in East Asia.
