Foundation degree in Evangelism - Modules

Please note that these modules are delivered only at The Wilson Carlile Centre. 

 

1THB51 Foundations in Action Reflection Learning

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Self" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB54, 2THB51 and 2THB54.

Module Description

This module explores the action reflection process of learning which is used throughout the Foundation Degree in Evangelism.  It enables students to develop an understanding of the process and method of learning they will use throughout the award.  In this module, students use action reflection learning to explore the mission context and the organisational context in which the learning on the rest of the course will take place.

1THB52 Foundations in Working with Others

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Others" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB55, 2THB52 and 2THB55.

Module Description

This module explores the theology and practice of working with others. It enables students to explore the themes of otherness and diversity, within the mission context. Students develop their own interpersonal skills using theoretical models drawn from theology, sociology and psychology, relating to people in a range of situations.

1THB53 Foundations in Contextual Evangelism

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Project Management” within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB56, 2THB53, and 2THB56.

Module Description

This module explores mission and evangelism within the British context. Through action reflection learning, students develop knowledge and understanding of the practice of evangelism in Britain, in relation to key theological ideas and changes in British culture. Students apply this knowledge to their own mission context in order to develop appropriate forms of context-driven evangelism.

1THB54 Christianity as a Pioneering Faith

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Self" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB51; 2THB51; 2THB54

Module Description

This module develops students’ knowledge and understanding of pioneering evangelism. It enables students to explore ways in which the Church has responded to changing context through history, making links with key theological and Biblical ideas. Students will apply this knowledge to their own local and organisational context in order to explore Christianity as a pioneering faith.

1THB55 Contextual Communication

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Others" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB52, 2THB52 and 2THB55.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection upon communication.  Through action reflection learning, students explore and apply theological insights to theoretical and practical skills within the mission context, in order to develop appropriate forms of context-driven communication.

1THB56 Enabling Christian Community

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Project Management” within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB53, 2THB53, and 2THB56.

Module Description

This module explores definitions of Church.  It enables students to demonstrate an understanding of the elements which make a community distinctively Christian, with reference to key theological perspectives and Biblical texts.  Students apply this knowledge as they identify and develop skills in enabling Christian community in their own mission context.

2THB51 Religion and Faith

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Self" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB51, 1THB54 and 2THB54.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection upon the theories and theology of hospitality, with direct reference to building relationships with other people of faith.  This forms a basis for exploration of understandings of mission, evangelism and witness.  They apply these insights within the mission context in order to develop appropriate practice in working with other people of faith.

2THB52 Building and Facilitating Teams

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Others" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB52, 1THB55 and 2THB55.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection on team work.  Students use theological resources to evaluate, apply and develop key skills in facilitating effective team work in the mission context.

2THB53 Project Management

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Project Management” within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB53, 1THB56, and 2THB56.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection on building and implementing vision.  Students use theological resources to evaluate, apply and develop entrepreneurial skills within the mission context.

2THB54 Independent Learning Unit

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Self" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB51, 1THB54 and 2THB51.

Module Description

The Independent Learning Unit (ILU) provides students with an opportunity to develop as independent learners – planning, negotiating, managing and evaluating significant aspects of their learning through researching a topic within the field of Theology and Religious Studies, focused on the study of evangelism in pioneering contexts. The module aims to make explicit links between the world of ministry and academic research.

2THB55 Change Management

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Others" within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB52, 1THB55 and 2THB52.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection on change.  Drawing on theories of social and cultural change, students make critical theological assessment and application of models of change management within the mission context.

2THB56 Ministry at the Margins

Strand: This module contributes to the strand “Project Management” within the Foundation Degree in Evangelism, and complements 1THB53, 1THB56, and 2THB53.

Module Description

This module engages students in theological reflection on marginalisation.  Students evaluate the way this theme is reflected in their professional ministry with the Training Partner.  As part of this, students may identify and negotiate training in skills in a specialist area particular to their personal ministerial development.
