Graham Mizon
Programme in Theology & Religious Studies: BA
in Theology and Ministry
Study mode: Part
time
Study Centre: Salvation Army,
William Booth College – London
I’m married with 4 children, I have been in
ministry as a Salvation Army officer for over 30 years. I
enjoy reading, walking and my only vice is supporting my home
football team, Oldham Athletic! I am nearly half-way through
my 2-year course.
I am presently responsible for promoting
mission and ministry in churches in the East Scotland
Division. This programme not only provided a theological
perspective but it provided a practical link as well. This
connected well with my present roll. The fact that this
course could be delivered through the William Booth College
provided easy access for me.
Doing a part-time programme at degree level
brings its challenges. Work and home life need to co-exist
with my studies. Having the support of my Boss and my Wife
(who, I think, are two different people!) does help. You also
need discipline and a strong commitment to your studies.
I have found the support – including on-line
support – to be good. Distance-learning* also has its
challenges, but whenever I have phoned or emailed a tutor or the
University for help it has always been forthcoming.
I thought that doing this course as a mature
student would be difficult. However, although it has been a
steep learning curve, I have really enjoyed it. So many
people in their 50’s start to plod along until retirement
arrives. Doing this course has given me a new perspective on
life and reminds me that I still have so much to learn.
Thank you YSJU!
*please note that distance learning is unique
to this particular centre.
