Programme in Theology & Religious Studies:  Foundation degree in Theology and Ministry

Study mode:  Part time

Study Centre: Kadugli House , Steeton , West Yorkshire

The programme was recommended to me by my DDO. However it was near to home, a friend of mine had also begun the training  and the hours fitted in well  with working full time.  I was also very inspired by the topics on offer.

I am  a grandmother, wife and mother  working full time and am training with the idea of possible NSM training. I am an active Christian and fully involved with my local church. I have  a dog and despite the training have time for long walks and enjoy gardening, holding dinner parties and reading.

I was daunted at first as it was my first time studying  again after at least 40 years, but found the trainers and the course very helpful and the course time scales allow plenty of time to fit in essays and reading as well as working full time. Family were most affected by the Saturday sessions which on top of church commitments made that particular weekend very heavy going for them especially, but these have been kept to a minimum and so far have not been a problem. Personally I found the full day very worthwhile, but would not really like more of them, I think the balance of week nights and Saturdays is a very good model. It is much less challenging than I expected.

I found the resources being available for the most part on site to borrow rather than buy, was very helpful and the books chosen were not too highbrow for my new to learning mind, but were still very informative. As a new adult learner without much academic background I found that the support  to get back into learning was excellent from the trainer and I was encouraged that I was despite my lack of confidence in my abilities originally to start to believe that I could actually achieve something worthwhile, by continuing the learning.

The best thing about being a York St John student is the ease of access for me as it is so near to my home, but the support of everyone including the other students has been invaluable and I am very pleased that I am able to continue to train here.
