Module Description

This module contributes to the postgraduate provision in Theology & Religious Studies. The module aims to develop students as effective consultancy practitioners by extending an awareness of the nature of the settings in which they operate.  It promotes a student’s proficiency in the analysis, design and evaluation of church and community work and seeks to develop their reflective practice through critical engagement with a range of consultancy theory and models.  This module forms part of the ‘Consultancy and Leadership for Mission and Ministry’ strand. The strand enhances the programme by offering specific modules in a developing and growing sub-discipline of Practical Theology.

Module Description

This module contributes to the postgraduate provision in Theology & Religious Studies. The module aims to develop students as effective consultancy practitioners by extending their awareness of the organisational context in which they operate.  It gives students the underpinning knowledge required for the analysis, design and evaluation of church and community work.  It helps them link theological ideas of ministry and mission to the organisational contexts in which they are enacted.

These include: learning by doing, reflective practice, theological reflection and understanding of context and tradition.  Students will both document and reflect upon their practice contributing to a developing model of consultancy praxis.

Module Description

The module aims to enable students to engage critically with and apply key concepts in consultancy to a piece of experiential learning paying particular attention to theological reflection, context and tradition in the development of reflective practice. In particular it focuses upon the development of four key tools and their application to consultancy: ideas about how we learn; ideas taken from the world of professional education and development about reflecting on practice; ideas taken from practical theology about reflecting theologically; and, ideas about how we interpret the world around us and the theological tradition we inhabit. This module forms part of the ‘Consultancy for Mission and Ministry’ strand. The strand enhances the programme by offering specific modules in a developing and growing sub-discipline of Practical Theology.

Module Description

This module aims to enable students to undertake a substantial piece of independent research at level M. The independent learning is supported by tutorial supervision, but students may also choose to find other external resources, e.g. summer schools, series of lectures, conferences, etc. where these are available and appropriate. It will be supervised by York Institute for Community Theology. This module forms part of the  ‘Consultancy and Leadership for Mission and Ministry’ strand.
