"I have always had a passion for theology and I knew from
studying GCSE and A Level RE that I wanted to continue to study it
at degree level. The subject is so prevalent within contemporary
society which makes it all the more exciting! The course at York St
John is fantastic, not only because of the diverse choice of
modules but also because of the level of support you receive from
the tutors. They are always there to help, and always encourage you
to seek help when you need it. We are very fortunate within the
faculty as there is a vast array of resources and we are
particularly privileged to have the RE Centre within the library.
Theology is often seen as an old subject, learnt merely from text
books, but not at York St John! The faculty has developed a range
of modules for all interests from theology in film, biblical
themes, to practical theology in contemporary society covering
issues such as homelessness. There is almost certainly something to
intrigue every theologian! The course is challenging but one that
you cannot fail to enjoy."

"Encouragement, fascination and community. These are the key
words for Theology & Religious Studies at York St John
University. Encouragement – I have really appreciated the support
and guidance which the department offers. Fascination – the staff
are enthusiastic about their specialist subjects, and stimulate a
keen interest among the students. Community – there is a really
good atmosphere among the students and staff, and tutors are always
available to be consulted. I‘m exploring ministry in the Church of
England – but this course has prepared me for far more than that. I
really recommend this course to anyone enthusiastic about Theology
& Religious Studies!"

"My time at York St John has been amazing; I
have grown academically and personally and the tutors are a
fantastic support. The modules, such as Religion and Film
and Religion and Creative Writing are thought-provoking
and diverse. I have recently returned from a trip to Glasgow as
part of the Religion and the Visual Arts module and this
is a key example of how the course offers a variety of
opportunities to learn from first hand experiences. I have been
accepted onto a Primary PGCE course and I feel that my degree has
provided fantastic knowledge and understanding for my future
career."

"Being a Theology and Religious Studies
student has created a range of exciting opportunities for me both
in relation to the course itself and in extra-curricular
activities, for example being a programme representative. With
excellent, supportive staff, this fascinating course has allowed me
to develop individually, teaching me to think objectively when
exploring world issues and religions. Theology and Religious
Studies has allowed me to flourish as an individual, growing in
confidence when using research skills and communicating with
diverse groups. I feel that this will benefit me greatly when
seeking employment."
