Some of our valued partners
The Sangat Community Centre, Keighley
The
Faculty has worked with the Sangat Community Centre, Keighley, for
over 3 years to deliver a range of bite-sized courses including
Every Child Matters, Managing Behaviour and an Introduction to
Youth Work. The objectives of the Sangat centre are to use
the talents and skills of the community, make links between the
generations, provide advice relating to statutory rights and create
opportunities for training and jobs.
In 2009 a partnership agreement between York
St John University and the Sangat Centre was signed. Centre
Manager, Ghulum Rabani said “The participants and whole community
is very pleased that York St John University have offered us a
range of courses based on our needs. The students have enjoyed high
quality training on their doorstep, supported by highly qualified
lecturers. The training, skills and knowledge gained will empower
and equip them to use these skills in their Madrassas,
supplementary schools and Mosques. The training has also encouraged
them to learn more and go on to other training courses. For some
students university was big aim, but York St John University made
it attainable. Ultimately this training will improve the quality of
education and life of those who have attended. We look forward to
continuing our partnership with York St John University”.
Archbishop Sentamu Academy, Kingston upon Hull

Andrew Chubb, Principal, shares his thought on the
partnership between Archbishop Sentamu Academy and York St
John University:
“Archbishop Sentamu Academy is proud to be associated with York
St John University. We have explored many areas of work
throughout our partnership, including course accreditation
opportunities for our staff. We have also provided
residential courses on campus for our students, which aim to boost
their levels of English and Maths, and also to encourage them to
aspire for university places"

schools and children's services to access leadership training at
all levels. It is focused around six local authorities – Hull, East
Riding of Yorkshire, North East Lincs, North Lincs, York and North
Yorkshire.
The Centre for Leadership Excellence is being developed through
the group to be a recognised centre for the development of leaders
for Children’s and Young People’s Services working and enriching

City of York Council – Governor Support and Development
Service
York St John University has a long history of working in
partnership with the City of York Council. One example of this is
the joint development of accredited modules for the Governor
Support and Development Service.
Sue Pagliaro, Service Manager said “We have
been delighted to work in partnership with York St John University
to offer a programme of high-quality training for school governors.
The University’s heritage of educational focus and excellence
makes it an ideal partner for the delivery of courses relating to
school leadership and management. Because the programme is
endorsed and quality-assured by the University, it ensures its
credibility and raises its profile. It allows school
governors the option of working towards a recognised
University-awarded qualification which is unique to York.
The partnership use of the University campus
has been of great benefit in providing a central and accessible
venue for training. Governors become students of the
university, with all the benefits this offers, and feel part of a
much broader learning establishment.”
