York St John University Equality information
Introduction
At York St John we are proud of our reputation
as a university that encourages students and staff to flourish in
an inclusive, accessible and friendly environment. Every day
across campus we make real the commitment in our mission statement
“to the provision of excellent, open and progressive higher
education that embraces difference, challenges prejudice and
promotes justice” in practical ways that enhance the experience of
our diverse student and staff communities.
The challenges that we have set ourselves to
improve the student experience and increase the number of students,
including international students, who choose to come to York St
John means that it is now more important than ever that we are
confident of our understanding of equality and diversity issues and
our skill in creating an environment where everyone feels welcome
and where individual needs are recognised and addressed.
The data provided on the following web pages
contains key statistics relating to our students and staff profiles
and outlines some of the action that we have taken to advance
equality and diversity best practice across the University.
The Staff Survey 2012 highlighted that 98% are
aware of the University’s Equality, Diversity & Human Rights
Policy and 97% are satisfied with their level of awareness of
diversity issues and how to react appropriately with colleagues and
students.
