Private Accommodation for New Students

As a new student, it may be that you prefer to look for your own accommodation in the private sector rather than go into University residences.  If this is the case take a look at our Private Accommodation List for an idea of what's available.

If you have come to York St John through clearing, or if we were your insurance offer with no guaranteed offer of accommodation you may be advised that you need to find accommodation in the private sector.

The Accommodation Team run a Landlords' Event for any students in this situation, which will takeAccommodation place in late August 2012.  Househunting packs will be available and representatives from the Accommodation Team will be on hand to offer advice.  If you are in a situation where you need to find private accommodation you will be given the details of this event once you have secured your place with us. Please contact the Accommodation Team if you need further details.

To make the prospect of finding a private property a little less daunting we have put together some vital information of how to go about finding somewhere to live, how to enter into a tenancy agreement and things to be aware of whilst your tenancy is in force.

To find out more go to our House-Hunting Advice Page.
