Accidents and Incidents

York St John University is a very safe place to work, study and visit but accidents still do occur and everyone needs to know what to do.

In the event of an accident, dangerous occurrence or near miss in your workplace, area of study or elsewhere in the University:

1. If needed, call for a First Aider to treat the injured person as follows;

  • During Office Hours call Reception by dialling 0 (Open 8 till 5.30 Monday to Thursday, 8 till 5 Friday)
  • Out of Office Hours or at Weekends call Security Office by dialling (87)6444 .  All Officers are First Aid Trained and the Office is open 24 hours a day).

2. Always report the accident or incident to your line manager or lecturer, as soon as possible.

3. Always help them to complete a copy of the University Accident, Dangerous Occurrence or Near Miss form. They must record on this form the action that they will take to prevent reoccurrence and keep a copy for their records.

4. The line manager or lecturer must always send a copy of the completed form to the Health & Safety Officer.
