Expectant and New Mothers
The University has a range of available guidance for ‘New
and Expectant Mothers at Work’ and as part of our duty of care
will endeavour to provide a safe environment in which you can
continue to work, as long as such staff remain well and have the
approval of their midwife.
Many women work while they are pregnant and
pregnancy should be regarded as part of everyday life and any
health and safety implications arising from pregnancy can normally
be addressed by quite simple steps.
However some staff may be exposed to specific hazards
because of their work or because of their personal health
circumstances which may have an adverse effect on them or their
unborn child. As a result, and consistent to the approach
with all other hazards, the University offers specific guidance to
assist inn completing a risk assessment for any New or Expectant
Mother which along with other guidance is available from the Human
Resources website.
The Health & Safety Officer can also advise any
individual or their line manager in respect of specific queries
about H&S hazards or the risk assessment during pregnancy or
afterwards. In addition staff can discuss matters with their
line manager or your dedicated HR Officer. If anyone has any
specific work related pregnancy concerns, our Occupational Health
Provider (OHP) can advise on these; and the HR Team can
arrange a referral.
