Scaffolding

Some staff with the Facilities Directorate and certain technicians within the Faculty of Arts have been trained to use scaffolding and in some cases to also erect tower scaffolds.

This is a specialist skill for which training is required. No unauthorised staff should ever access any scaffolding without prior permission by the Facilities Directorate or by any contractor appointed by them.  If such permission is granted they must wear the Personal Protective Equipment (‘PPE’) which they are instructed to wear and must following all instructions and safety rules which they are given.

No student should ever ascend or use a tower scaffold (if one has been erected within a studio for example) without having completed full instruction by the Arts Technicians or Arts Teaching Staff. In the rare instances where this occurs, this must only happen if the students are supervised at all times.
