From January 1 2012 Lord Mayor’s Walk will be a Smoke Free Campus

In line with the University's commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of our staff and students, consultation has taken place with management groups, trades unions and the students' union in relation to Lord Mayor's Walk becoming a daytime smoke-free campus. This has included both staff and student surveys that were conducted earlier in 2011.

The outcome of that process is that the Lord Mayor's Walk campus is to be designated no-smoking during the day from 1 January 2012.  From 6.00pm smoking will be permitted in a designated smoking area outside the Students' Union.

The aim of our no smoking policy is to protect and improve the health of people working, studying or visiting York St John and to provide a clean and pleasant campus environment.  It is therefore hoped that everyone will support the policy to ensure its successful implementation. If any staff or student has any questions or comments then please e-mail: healthylife@yorksj.ac.uk

Smoking is an individual choice.  Should anyone want help to quit however, the following support is available:

York St John's NHS-trained Smoking Advisors are able to provide support, encouragement and motivation through one-to-one sessions. They can provide information on the various forms of nicotine replacement therapy and offer practical tips to quitting.
