Violence at Work Policy
The University of York St. John is committed
to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all
employees.
It is the policy of the University that
violence in any form is unacceptable.
Violence includes any form of verbal abuse, intimidation,
threats, physical attack and property damage.
Any form of violence by an employee of the
University against another employee, volunteer, student, vendor,
contractor or visitor to the University, if proved, will lead to
disciplinary action up to and including dismissal for unacceptable
conduct.
The University is particularly concerned with
eliminating all forms of harassment and bullying as it recognises
that such behaviour is unacceptable, discriminatory and, in certain
circumstances, also unlawful. Members of staff who are
subjected to intimidation, bullying, aggression, victimisation,
harassment etc should contact Human Resources or their Line
Manager, who are all there to help.
Our Workplace Violence Policy, guidance and
risk assessment is located on the Human
Resources A-Z pages.
And as part of this process we have a number
of Harassment Advisers, who are trained members of staff who can
support others in confidence. Details of Advisers can be
found by contacting your manager of the HR team.
The HSE has also created a number of documents
which provide useful information on controlling violence at
work:
