Hello and welcome to the Summer issue of the Theology postgraduate newsletter. This is an overview of some important dates, times, and news that you need to be aware of.

Modules in 2012/13

Please note that in September you will be required to choose your modules for the whole academic year. You will need to inform us of your choices by completing an online form:

We continue to shape and develop modules in our programme.

Islam in Contemporary Western Society In the new academic year we are pleased to offer this new module within our Religion & Public Life strand. We plan to deliver this module in Term 3 on Thursday evenings.

Late submission - IMPORTANT CHANGES!

The deferral practices on the programme have been reviewed and updated to abide by the University late submission policies. Therefore please note that although we still would like to offer our students as much flexibility and leeway as possible the deferrals will be granted at the discretion of the Head of Programme for a capped mark if there are no mitigating circumstances to support the request.

2012/13 Programme Handbook

It is important to note that we do not issue printed documents such as handbooks, instead the current handbook can be accessed via Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment. You will need to use the YSJ username and password to log in.

2012/13 Programme Handbook will be available in September 2012 from the MA Students Programme area. If you do not have the MAT&RS (Students) area visible when you log into Moodle please let the Postgraduate Admin Team know at theology@yorksj.ac.uk or phone 01904876462.

Student Support in 2012/13

Welcome Day 29th September 2012

Once again we will be offering a Welcome Day at the start of the academic year. This year it will be held on Saturday 29th September from 9am to 1pm.

Attendance is compulsory for all new students, and recommended to any students who missed the induction last year.

There will be material about the programme, about studying at postgraduate level and about using University online resources and tools. The administration team will be on hand to help with any queries about enrolment or the programme generally.

MA Support Sessions

A number of additional evening sessions will be held to help all students on the programme. They are compulsory to new full time students but all new students are urged to attend.

Annual Postgraduate Conference 2nd March 2013

The theme for 2013 conference is 'Peace and Reconciliation' and the keynote speaker will be Dr George Wilkes, Research Fellow at the School of Divinity, Edinburgh University. The conference will take place at York St John on Saturday 2nd March 2013.

We are always looking for students to contribute to the newsletter. You might want to comment on your experience while studying, mention something that you found particularly insteresting, or share what studying on the programme has led to subsequently. Please send material to the Postgraduate Administration Team at theology@yorksj.ac.uk and we will publish it in our next newsletter.

Annual Programme Evaluation

Each year we review the programme and make an action plan for improvements. This review takes in evaluations from staff and students on particular modules but we also like to get overall impressions of the programme.

To do this we ask ALL students to complete a short on-line anonymous survey. This takes just a few moments but it greatly helps us to identify the areas we need to address in the coming year.
