Welcome to my first blog the genHOME project.

My colleagues and I at York St John University are very excited to have been awarded the contact to run the project.  It is however worth mentioning from the start that we hope there will be many opportunities over the next three years for other people from the Specialist Section in Housing, housing practitioners, members of the public with disabilities, policy makers, researchers and academics to join in and contribute the aims of the project.

So what have we been up to so far?

Well the contract between York St John and College of Occupational Therapists started on 1 January 2012.  Since then we have been working hard developing this website, the e-newsletter (sign up here) and setting out the work plan for the first year.

the genHOME Steering Group held its first full meeting at COT headquarters.  Further information regarding the Steering Group can be found here.

First tasks

My first talks for the project will be to recruit willing volunteers to the working sub-groups to help us map out the existing evidence for effective housing design and adaptations.  Specifically, I need help carrying out a systematic map of the literature and to do this I am looking for people who may be able to help with some hand searching of journals and literature reviewing.  If you are interested email me at genhome@yorksj.ac.uk.

Well I will use this blog to keep you updated on what I am doing and in future to discuss any key themes or issues coming out of the project.
