Peace Studies conference
Repertoires of Violence: Multidisciplinary Analyses of the
Representation of Peace and Conflict
The first conference to be held by York St John University
Centre for Peace Studies took place on 1-2 July 2009, and focused
on the ways in which matters of peace and conflict are
represented. The conference featured contributions from
scholars working across the arts, social sciences and humanities,
and addressed representations of peace and conflict in a diverse
manner, incorporating social, cultural, discursive, media,
artistic, literary, historical and cognitive
representations. The aim of the conference was to bring
together scholars from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds whose
work addressed these matters, and in doing so to foster
inter-disciplinary dialogue. The Centre hopes to build on the
foundations established by the conference to continue this work in
the future.
