Governor Appointments

Governor Appointments to York St John University

We have concluded our recruitment of Governors for 2013.  Expressions of interest are always welcome for any future vacancies that arise.

Founded in 1841, York St John University has a proud tradition in higher education, serving a growing student population of around 6000. We are a high quality, friendly university, known for academic excellence, a strong community spirit and a magnificent campus, based in the centre of historic York.

An ambitious university needs to be well-governed. We are seeking new Governors who can play an active role on our Governing Body, which has responsibility for overseeing University strategy, financial matters (current turnover £44 million) and safeguarding the institution’s mission and character.

Our Governors are appointed from a number of constituencies and have experience and skills across a range of sectors within and beyond higher education. Current vacancies are for those with skills beyond the sector.  Applications would be particularly welcome from those with professional expertise in any of the following areas: finance, accounting and risk management; human resource management; legal matters.  The expected time commitment of the role is approximately 12-20 days per year.

Governors are not remunerated, although expenses may be claimed.

At any stage, please feel free to contact Alison Kennell, Registrar and Secretary
to the Governing Body for further governance information.  To arrange an
informal discussion about the role, please contact Julie Cowans at E: j.cowans@yorksj.ac.uk or T: 01904 876601.
