Work Life Balance
The University recognises that staff have responsibilities
and interests that have to be balanced with working life. It is the
University’s aim to create a well managed, flexible working
environment that supports staff and their families, promotes
welfare, maintains working practices and provides a productive
balance between work and life outside work.
A number of policies and initiatives are in place to provide
support in this area, and this section provides details of the
following policies:
Adoption policy
This document sets out the policy and procedures to be applied
to adoption leave and pay.
Academic work planning
The Academic Work Planning Model (AWPM) is a management tool
intended to provide a structure and a series of clear principles
which will enable an equitable, transparent and consistent approach
to the allocation and management of academic staff work planning
within Faculties and across the University.

Annual leave

These notes are intended to help you to understand the basis of
annual leave entitlements in University and to calculate leave
entitlements within your department.
Dependants Leave Policy
This policy describes the entitlement of employees to take
unpaid leave to deal with urgent and serious problems involving
dependants.
Guidance on staff attendance during severe weather
This Guidance Note is intended to provide
managers and staff with information on the University’s approach to
dealing with employee attendance during exceptional adverse weather
conditions.
Flexible working procedure & application form
The University is committed to assisting all
staff to achieve work-life balance regardless of their personal
circumstances. It has in place a range of leave schemes and
facilities to help achieve this.
This policy describes the entitlement of
employees to use flexi-time. The flexi-scheme is intended to
allow employees to work pre-arranged times that suit their
individual circumstances whilst ensuring that service standards are
maintained.

This document sets out the policy and
procedures to be applied to maternity leave and pay.
Useful information for balancing work and home
life
This booklet has been written as a guide for
the pregnant employee. It is intended to help you to ensure
your safety and the safety of your unborn child while you continue
to work at the University.
This document sets out the policy and
procedure of staff to take leave when supporting a pregnant partner
or when the employee is the partner of an individual who adopts, or
the other member of a couple who are adopting jointly.
York FIS operate an ask anything
service. There remit is to provide free and
impartial information on childcare or any service that could
support a parent
or carer in their role.
