Removing Proxy Settings From Your Computer
There is no longer any need to configure a proxy server on the
residences network. This should make setting up your internet
connection easier, more reliable and increase the compatibility
with applications.
If you configured a YSJ proxy in the past, your connection will
continue to work as they are still available to use. However should
you wish to remove them this guide is to help you do so.
It is your personal preference if you choose to use a proxy, for
most people removing them will give the best functionality and
reliability. However some software applications may require
one. Since every application is different please consult your help
documentation.
To Remove the proxy server
- Open Internet Explorer and then click on
Tools and then Internet
Options

- Select the Connections Tab
then the Lan Settings button
- A window titled Local Area Network (LAN)
Settings should now appear.

- Remove the tick out of
'Use a proxy server for your LAN'
- Leave the 'Automatically detect
settings' as this will help you connect elsewhere.
- Press "Ok" and
"Apply".
- Restart your browser by
closing internet explorer and opening it up again and test your
connection.
If you want to use a proxy
for a software application that needs a 'HTTP' proxy. The
details are as follows:
Server: silvermoon.yorksj.ac.uk
Port: 8080
Since every application is different please refer to your user
documentation on how to setup a proxy.
