Outlook Anywhere
What is Outlook Anywhere?
With Outlook Anywhere you can use the full Microsoft Outlook
client to connect to your York St John mailbox not only whilst
connected directly to the network but also whilst travelling or at
home. If you connect your laptop to the university network, Outlook
will work as it always has. If you are not connected to the
internal network and have an internet connection, Outlook will
establish a link to the York St John email servers. If you
are travelling and do not have a continuous connection work in
Outlook will not be interrupted. Upon Outlook detecting an
active internet connection it will automatically synchronise with
the university email servers and send and receive any queued
email.
Why use Outlook Anywhere?
For most people, accessing email using Outlook Web Access or a
mobile device will provide the functionality needed. If you
wish to do any of the following then Outlook Anywhere may suit you
better:
- Travel and use email where there is limited, intermittent or no
connectivity to the internet, eg travelling by train.
- Have the requirement to compose lengthy emails
- If you have Microsoft Office installed and wish to write and
attach Office documents to email
- Easily access shared mailboxes or calendars
- Organise your mailbox
Prerequisites
- Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 is installed
