Printing FAQ
Canon Photocopiers
Why do I now have to logon to the photocopier with my username
& password?
This was the securest method of authentication available to us
and gives us better accountability of any print & copy done on
the Canon devices.
(It's secure because only you know your logon details!)
This method of authentication also eliminates the problems we
had with codes such as forgotten codes, lost codes, and codes
getting into the wrong hands.
It also enables us to use the secure "follow me" print solution
where any member of staff (or student) can send a print job into a
Black and White print queue and pick it up from any
photocopier on campus after authenticating to the device.
The old codes system was very limited, unsecure and
unfortunately excluded some departments and members of staff as we
didn't have enough codes to give out. As every member of staff has
a username & password, this gives everybody instant access to
every device on campus, without any intervention from Print
Services.
The photocopier is in standby mode - how do I "wake it
up"?
Simply press the grey power button and the machine will wake
up
How do I log off the photocopier?
To log off the photocopier simply press the "ID" button which is
located at the bottom left of the keypad. Please remember to
log off each time you have finished using the photocopier or
somebody else could copy on your account!
The display on the copier is difficult to see (too
light/dark)?
There is a small contrast dial to the right of the screen. Turn
this to adjust the display's brightness and contrast.
My copy has come out with a line across it!
When you place a document in the document feeder, there is a
small strip of glass underneath which reads the paper as it goes
through. This small strip of glass is situated to the left of the
main glass and is approximately 2cm in width.
If this strip of glass has specks of dirt or correction fluid on
it, it can cause lines to appear on copies.
To rectify, please wipe/clean this strip of glass with a soft
cloth or tissue making sure you leave no particles or residue
behind. If you don't have a cloth, please phone Print Services and
we'll be happy to come over and clean it for you.
Do I need to turn off my Canon photocopier at night?
There is no need to turn off the photocopiers as they are
environmentally friendly and only consume 3W of power in standby
mode (compared to around 500W for the old machines!)
If you do need to turn the machines off, then please ensure that
you follow the "shut down" procedure or you may damage the
photocopier. To shut down the machine, please hold down the grey
power button for approx 3 seconds and then follow the on screen
instructions. After the machine has shut down, you can then turn it
off.
