Linking search terms with 'AND' or 'OR'
When do you use 'AND' to link search terms?
- Use AND to link 2 or more different subjects
together eg: soccer and injury.
- This retrieves only those records which include both
terms.
- Sometimes you don't need to use 'And' because some databases
(eg: Firstsearch databases) automatically assume that 'and' is
between each term that you type.
- Often there are several search rows to input your search terms:
each linked by 'And'
- See more about using AND in your search
When do you use 'OR' to link search terms?
- Use OR when there are alternative terms to describe
your topic eg: woman or female, or when you are interested
in either term eg: knee or ankle.
- Records will be retrieved if either (or both) term is
present.
- See more about using OR in your
search
