Video platform

The TEL team has been working closely with colleagues in IT to
come up with a university wide solution for dealing with digital
video files. To that end, the HELIX Media Library has been
purchased and installed, and we are trialling the Crestron lecture
capture system.
Helix Media Library makes it easy for academic
staff, and students, to upload a range of media files like
MPEG, AVI, Windows Media and Quick Time files. These are then
encoded to a standard format for streaming delivery and can be
viewed in a range of ways from mobile to full screen for white
board or projector delivery. They are easily embedded into other
systems, for example in module pages in Moodle. This opens up lots
of new opportunities such as providing students with video
feedback, or recording student performances and inviting peer
review/commenting.
The Crestron mobile lecture capture system
enables tutors to record live classroom sessions, which students
can use as a revision resource or as an alternative for being
unable to attend a face to face session. We are working with some
tutors in Education who want to use the system to record keynote
presentations, leaving more time for debate and discussion in their
face to face seminars. Read 7 things you should know about lecture
capture here for
more information on this technology.

capture system should contact Technology Enhanced Learning:
